My dog breath stinks
Q: My dogs, pal, mollie & sadie breaths stinks what can i do. i already try the breath tablets ain't working help please.
A: Any pet with bad breath should be examined by a veterinarian, unless you know it is caused by something the pet ate. some causes of bad breath can cause severe and even fatal complications, if not treated promptly.
Flea and ticks
Q: Hi, i noticed this past summer that frontline was not working as well in years past. is there a reason? are they becoming immune or maybe i am not keeping my labs out of the water long enough afterwards? thanks
A: The frontline was probably working, but the flea infestation was so severe that you were finding new fleas on her constantly. remember, treating the pet is not the answer. you also have to treat the house and yard.

Parvo infected dog
Q: Hello, i received a white german shepherd on a saturday delivered from california on a plane. on sunday she started vomiting. on monday she wouldn't hardly move and would not eat and drink. we took her to the vet and they put her on an iv to replenish her fluids. i read in one of your replies that some, (rarely) dogs could get parvo from the vaccine. the lady who sold us the dog said she does not have parvo at her kennel and the only place she could of contracted it was at the vet. the vet looked at her on the thursday before the saturday we received her. is it possible that maybe the stress of the flight could of let the vaccine turn into parvo? just trying to guess how she contracted the virus. thank you!
A: It is possible that pet may have been incubating field strain parvo virus and was activated or prescipated by long flight and stress. or it is possible theoretically that pup had been vaccinated with modified live viral vaccine that had reverted to virulent form and caused disease due to stresses above

Teeth/dental cleaning
Q: If dog has gum disease, what will happen to the dog if you don't get their teeth professionally cleaned? what are the risks? how often should this be done? do all dogs need their teeth cleaned by the vet?
A: Many dogs build up tartar or bacteria on teeth as well as gum inflammation which need professional teeth cleaning and gum scaling just like people. every pet is different. some need done once to twice yearly while others need every few years. very common as pets reach middle age. not too many risks if pre anesthesia blood work done to make sure internal organs can handle anesthesia. if tartar and gingivitis gets too bad, can get secondary infections into blood stream which can affect other organ systems like heart, kidneys, etc
